Teaching Pilates in Sayulita, Mexico: Where My Journey Began

There are places that leave a mark on you long after you leave and for me, that place is Sayulita, Mexico.

Known as el pueblo mágico (the magical town), Sayulita was the beginning of my journey as a Pilates instructor. My boyfriend and I spent time living there, embracing a slower pace of life. Our days consisted of surfing, hiking through the jungle, eating fresh fruit, walking barefoot through town, and building friendships that became lifelong.

During our time in Sayulita, I had the opportunity to teach Pilates throughout the community. I taught classes at my sister’s house hostel, at El Refugio Sayulita, and at the yoga studio at Dulce Abejita.

This season shaped the instructor I am today. Teaching in such a beautiful and connected environment showed me that movement is about so much more than exercise it is about community, confidence, and creating a space where people feel at home in their bodies.

Sayulita gave me some of my most meaningful memories: mornings moving my body, days spent in the ocean, and nights sharing stories with people who quickly became family.

It is a place I will always return to, a place that reminds me where this journey started and why I continue to teach.
